Our Mission

Our mission is to financially assist local children with life-long physical disabilities beyond what insurance covers. Our vision is to also compile a vast database of hospitals, corporate entities, housing options when traveling, along with a network of volunteers and parents nationwide who will come together and support “Bella’s Buddies”.

Our History

When Kerry Cavallo’s four-year-old daughter, Bella, was diagnosed with CHARGE Syndrome—a rare genetic disorder affecting approximately one in every 9,000 to 10,000 births—their world was forever changed. The Cavallo family encountered overwhelming medical and travel expenses, placing immense financial strain on their household. As they navigated this challenging path, they met other families facing similar hardships. Kerry knew that something needed to be done.

Determined to make a difference, she established Bella’s Angels in 2005. Now a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Bella’s Angels, provides critical financial assistance to children in our community living with lifelong physical disabilities. Beyond financial support for medical expenses, the organization offers a variety of family services, including emotional support, parent-to-parent guidance, and connections to essential community resources. To date, Bella’s Angels has touched the lives of countless children with special needs across Palm Beach County—affectionately known as “Bella’s Buddies.”

Fast forward to 2021, a milestone year for the organization. That October, Bella’s Angels hired its first-ever Programs Coordinator, ushering in a new era of growth. In February 2023, we proudly launched Thea’s Night Out, a Community Respite Care Program hosted at St. Peter’s Methodist Church in Wellington, FL. This free monthly initiative has given parents a much-needed opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved evening out, knowing their children are being cared for in a safe and nurturing environment.

Building on this momentum, Thea’s Night Out expanded to a second location at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palm Beach Gardens in 2024. By November of that year, our Administrative Assistant transitioned to a full-time role, and in February 2025, we celebrated the arrival of our first-ever Director of Development. Another historic milestone was reached on March 1, 2025, when Bella’s Angels officially moved into its first office space in West Palm Beach.

Today, Bella’s Angels serves 47 families across Palm Beach County, growing from 26 families just two years ago. Our mission remains steadfast: to provide unwavering support to children with special needs and their families, ensuring they never face their journey alone.

Bella’s Angels is committed to assisting families who fall into the middle-class sector—those who earn too much to qualify for government assistance but lack the financial means to cover their child’s medical expenses. We bridge this gap, ensuring parents never have to choose between paying for rent, groceries, electricity, or the necessary medical treatments their child needs to thrive.

What We Do

In addition to raising funds to help cover medical expenses that are not covered by insurance for our Buddies we provide family services such as providing emotional support, parent to parent assistance, and information on community resources.

Finding help for a child with special needs can be completely overwhelming. We pride ourselves in taking years of hand on experience with Bella, along with many other special needs families, and using that knowledge and contacts to help make the path of our Buddies and their families a little smoother.

If you have any questions and/or concerns about a child with life-long physical disabilities or would like to learn how to become a "Buddy" please feel free to contact Devon Mayo at dmayo@bellasangels.org.
